Fashion in Sport - Veteran Murray gets a lesson from youngster Robson

Despite never having trained together their collaboration was good-humoured and incredibly well co-ordinated, right down to what they wore on court. Being a fashion conscious 15-year-old Robson ensured that she kept the older, less fashionable Murray on the straight and narrow when it came to on-court apparel. For although Murray has worked incredibly hard on the court to get to his current standing as the world's number four, it appears that less effort has gone into determining his on-court attire. Well, according to Robson, at least!

Various reports Robson texted Murray prior to their games to determine what he intended to wear during their doubles rubbers and on one occasion forced him to completely change his outfit to avoid a clash with hers! Instead of wearing white, blue and green as intended Robson insisted that Murray changed into an outfit that wouldn't clash with her purple sports apparel!

Not only did Robson dramatically alter Murray's wardrobe but she also questioned his grooming habits, especially his hand care. However, she didn't even wait until after their match against Andrey Golubev and Yaroslava Svedona but delivered her withering verdict on the state of his 'rough' hands while the score stood at 5-0 during the first set, causing Murray must amusement and also harbouring a doubt that she was taking the game seriously.

It transpires that Murray is delighted to receive tips on mens fashion from his 15-year-old doubles partner. Indeed, so much so that he is hoping that their new-found pairs relationship will continue to London 2012 when no doubt Robson will still be calling the shots when it comes to outfit selection; on-court and off! However, the chances are by the time 2012 comes around the young tennis prodigy will have progressed so much in terms of ability that she will be able to take her pick of sponsor's outfits, for both hersel f and Mr Murray.

For the rest of us non-professional sports people the availability of fashionable sportswear has increased significantly over the last decade. Now such on-trend sports apparel is not only available in sports shops but also many high street stores, especially for normal daytime wear. Come 2012 the choice is bound to be immense as the whole country goes 'Olympics crazy'.
